Bridging Hope

Many, if not most, of the people who come to John 3:16 Mission share a common experience of homelessness— that of sheltering and sleeping under bridges. Living under bridges is demoralizing and dangerous, yet for the homeless, it’s often the best they can manage, trying to survive terrible circumstances.  The work given to us by God is to rescue them, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Rev. Steven P. Whitaker

"That first meal I ate here at John 3:16 Mission... it was a piece of Heaven. It tasted so good! It was a beginning of hope and a new life for me."

Story

Ben

A little over a year ago, Ben was living under a bridge in downtown Tulsa. About to turn 40, he had already given up on making anything out of his life. An abusive marriage and alcohol had destroyed any semblance of hope and he found himself living a lifestyle he would never have imagined years earlier.
“I was just done with life. I was done trying. If I was going to die out there, I was ready to go”
Your generous gifts helped save his life.

Merry

“I spent a lot of time under bridges. Being homeless as a woman, it was really scary and dangerous, especially late at night. It was hard to sleep. You didn’t know who you could trust.

Years ago when I would come to eat at John 3:16, they didn’t have a program for women so I asked if they would start one. Now, it’s amazing how much I’ve grown through the Renew Program. My walk with God has become much more solid. I’ve learned so many life skills.”

From Ice To Christ

Matt

Plagued by drugs and alcohol, Matt became homeless at a young age. He ended up living under the Katy Trail bridge.

I was able to get meals at John 3:16 and ever since I came into the program I’ve gone from a drug addict to free from drugs. I went from Ice (meth) to Christ.
